Now that you have Created and/or Joined the Chat Room, these instructions will only deal with the Chat Room Lounge page and the Chat Room itself
To access the Chat Room click the ENTER button and input your password
REMEMBER.. Your TEXT times out after 60 seconds but will not time out if your device goes to sleep
IMPORTANT NOTICE....
* Always exit the Chat Room by clicking on the EXIT button
* Always exit the Chat Room if you want to change windows advise your Chat Mate when you will be back.
* If you FIDDLE with the system or EXIT incorrectly you will get an error message
when next you try to access the Chat Room - The error message starts with "Oops Something went wrong....."
In this case click OK and refresh your browser. If you are still having trouble accessing the Chat Room -
delete it and create a new one. You will also get this error message if you clear your browser history.
* DO NOT open a new browser window while you are in the chatmate site and try and access chatmate.com.au -
it will trigger an error message and on some mobile devices it locks you out from ever accessing the site -
this is a security function so that you don't have another browser open which will display your
your typed text.
* Always clear your typed TEXT when no activity is occuring because if your device goes to sleep
(before the 60 second timeout) your text
remains static. If you don't, then if someone else were to view your device they will be able to see your last conversation
* If you DO NOT get a response from your Chat Mate within a reasonable amount of time, clear the text
You will need to advise your Chat Mate when next you will be in the Chat Room.
You must be aware that any electronic method (other than this App) used for this purpose
will be recorded.
So we recommend the following method for advising your Chat Mate when next you will be in the Chat Room....
At the end of your Chat, come to an agreement when next you will be in the Chat Room or
you can have a set time to chat. Alternatively.....
Go into the Chat Room when not chatting and click on the "Auto Insert"
"I'll be waiting here at Time-Date:"
and insert the day, date and time you will be in the Chat Room.
This text is not erased when entering or exiting the Chat Room. However....
if your Chat Mate alters the day, date and time that message will override the first message
This is a good way to advise your Chat Mate when next you will be in the room
Try and use codes like "My birthday (or and agreed date) minus 4 days"
and for the time use an agreed time
and use "minus or plus the hours and minutes".
For example....I'll be waiting here at Time-Date:: Plus 1 hour and 25 min : Minus 6 days.
So if the agreed time is say 6:00am the 'Deciphered Code' time will be 7:45 am
If the agreed date is the 10th of the month the 'Deciphered Code' date will be the 6th of that month.
So I'll be waiting for you in the Chat Room at 7:45 am on the 6th
(Good Trick if someone were to get hold of your device or looking over your shoulder)
When you create and join a chat room your Browser ID is your login ID, a
unique code is generated and it is this code that you share with the Chat Mate
together with a Password you created when establishing the Chat Room.
The Chat Room Lounge
When you access www.chatmate.com.au,
the system will detect if you are a Chat Room participant and automatically take you to the Chat Room Lounge.
To enter the Chat Room click or press on the entry button and you will then need to enter your Password.
If you forgot your password, check with your Chat Mate. If both users forgot the Password,
this system does not allow for changing (for obvious security and identity disclosure reasons).
In this case you will need to delete the chat room and start a new room with a new Password.
Deleting a Chat Room is no big deal because there is no data to loose – its
always empty when you leave the room.
Apart from your exit text when you leave the room and that text is ‘Browser
Closed’, ‘Text Timeout’ etc.
If you wish to change Chat Mates, you will need to delete the Chat Room and start again by creating a new Chat Room with the new Chat Mate
The Chat Room
You will enter the Chat Room at a predetermined Date/Day or Time.Br>
When inside The Chat Room, you will notice a 2.5 second delay in all postings. This is a Technical Requirement.
When you first enter the Chat Room the text will display "User Logged In"
or the auto selected message stating when your Chat Mate will enter the Chat Room.
wait for 15 or 20 seconds and if your Chat Mate has not responded, select the auto selected "I'm in the Chat Room R U?"
When a user types and posts a message, a timer will start. You will see the timer
counting down for 60 seconds.
if no new text is posted by either user within that 60 second period,
the content of the Chat Box will be replaced by
“Text Timeout"
The timer stops if your device
goes to sleep and the last text will
remain unless the other user types something.
If both devices go to sleep the text will remain static.
Opening a new Browser will trigger the text in the Chat Box to read “Out of View. Previous Text was.... + whatever the previous text was.
Closing the Browser will trigger the text in the Chat Box to read “Browser Closed"
Pressing the EXIT button will trigger the text to read “User Logged Out”.
Tips & Tricks… Because this system is absolute “Incognito” you don’t know who you are Chatting to. It could be someone else who got hold of the phone or device knew the Password and using that device. You could be Chatting to the wrong person.
Tip 1. Do not create a Chat Room from a device using the same land line LAN where other devices are connected to unless you are the sole person using that LAN. There is a risk of your Browser ID being duplicated.
Tip 2. Do not use the Chat Room using a Public Shared Wi-Fi.
Always
start a conversation with a question that only the two of the Chat
Room users will know, such as “What
color is your rabbit?”,
“what
was the subject of the last email I sent you?”,
“what
time did I last text you”
and so on…..
if there is a delay or incorrect answer, exit the Chat Room, delete it and
start again with a new Password and preferably a new browser.
Trick 2. If you are chatting about a sensitive or delicate matter it is good practice to delete the Chat Room and start a new one with a new Password and and preferably a different Browser.
Deleting a Chat Room is simply pressing the DELETE button. Creating a Chat Room is as “easy as Pie” once your’ve done it a couple of times.
SECURITY… This system is on a shared server and there are always people trying to get into servers looking for Passwords, logins etc. If they were successful, which is highly unlikely, all they will get is the browser IDs and the Passwords – NO DATA or anything else. So how can they use this information? They could Mimic your browser ID (Computer Programmers and website developers know how to do that) and log in as you.
Mimicking you can also occur if someone was to steal your device and use it while you are still on a chat or they know the Password. That is why always start a conversation with a question that only the two of the Chat Room users will know.
The above is the reality of the internet. Hacking and data theft (mainly emails) occurs every single minute all over the world.
How Secure is the Server……. It uses a firewall and the only ports that are open are HTTPS, HTTP and SSH. The SSH is not an open port it can only be accessed via a standalone device. This port is only open when remote monitoring is required.
If there is a detected breach in security, all chat rooms are deleted and the website will advise the date of deletion. Users will have to create a new room with a new Password. The likelihood of this happening is extremely rare.
